Jeremiah King Brings the ball down the court

The boys JV and Varsity basketball teams played the Brockton Boxers on Monday. Both teams were defeated as Brockton, a division one team ranked number two in the state, brought their A-Game.

JV started out slow in the first half down by a multitude of points. They came back in the second with a different attitude and played a strong second half. 8th grader Cody Jones, 9th grader Lionel Almonte led the JV bulldogs offense.

Junior Shane Lemieux put up a couple of 3 point bombs as well. On the defensive side of the ball, juniors Jason Chadwell and John Kenny had a good game. Kenny also led the team in rebounds. As great of a second half that these guys played, it was not good enough to beat the Boxers.

The varsity squad started out strong, battling for the lead in the first quarter. The boys were only down by a few points to start the second quarter but they couldn’t seem to catch back up with the big Brockton team.

We need to get to the line. These big kids can’t contain us. We are just too quick for them.”

— Kyree LaPlanche

The bulldogs in the first half shot 12 for 29 from the field; this is just above 40% in the first half. I asked senior Kyree LaPlanche what the team could do coming back in the second half. Kyree stated, “We need to get to the line. These big kids can’t contain us. We are just too quick for them.”

Kyree did just that going to the line 10 times and shooting 10 for 16. LaPlanche lead the team in points with 20 but Jeremiah King lead the team in field goal percentage shooting 44%.

The Bulldogs could not pull out the victory, losing to Brockton 71 to 52. This brings Holbrook to a record of 5-2.
